Started with a 2009 Specialized Rock Hopper Comp Pro Disc and used the fork and old 9 speed sram shifters. Needed a new headset to make the fork work with the new frame. I figure my bike is worth a few grand locally. I've been wearing lined winter boots whenever it's below -10C because of wind chill of the speed I'm now going. Before I could get away with bike shoes and insulated Arctic thinsulate shoe covers to -18C or so (but I was much slower). I'll eventually go to a lighter fork since that's probably now the heaviest piece on it. I don't really need a triple on the crank with the new parts and fancy bearings. I never use the smallest chain ring. Taking about 40 minutes even in the current conditions with some snow (13km). I also don't need granny gears on my rear cassette - I'm pretty much in line with the road bike running speed 11-26's. I used to have 11-34's.

and painted the rims with blaze orange plasti dip which is rubber to seal it out from salt for the winter. I popped the seals off the wheel bearings and bottom bracket bearings and scraped out the grease and replaced it with a combination of Amsoil low viscosity ATF, tungsten disulfide (ws2) powder (lowerfriction.com), and No Mor Friction (NMF - gonmf.com) and put it all back together. The chain is typically cleaned, dried and then coated with a paste made from tungsten disulfide and isopropyl brushed on and left to dry. Then I put the mix of atf, nmf, and ws2 on top. Hill climbs are much easier as a result.
